Study on medicines shortages

On 1 June, PGEU participated to a meeting organized by Technopolis, the consultancy who conducted a study on root causes of medicines shortages in Europe on behalf of the European Commission. During the meeting the consultancy presented the results of the study - including the two surveys on potential solutions to medicines shortages PGEU contributed too – and we were given the opportunity to make comments and further recommendations. We raised the need to extend the scope of pharmacy practice as a practical and immediate solution to address the problem of shortages and help patients finding alternative treatments. We also shared our position on electronic product information leaflets which the industry mentioned as a potential solution to shortages.

European Commission Workshop on the revision of the EU minimum harmonised training requirements for pharmacists under Directive 2005/36/EC (PQD)

On 28 June, PGEU participated in the European Commission workshop on the revision of the EU minimum harmonised training requirements for pharmacists under Directive 2005/36/EC (PQD). PGEU delivered a presentation on the topic “Community pharmacy advancements in patient-centred care across Europe”, focusing on aspects of pharmaceutical care, clinical pharmacy and social pharmacy in relation to the PQD.
